Alix Ventures: Supporting Early Stage Life Science Startups Engineering Biology to Drive Radical Advances in Human Health
Introduction
In recent years, advancements in DNA reading and editing technologies have resulted in immense growth of the synthetic biology and gene therapy markets. Driven by competition in terms of company and technology diversity, the cost, speed, and efficacy of DNA reading and editing tools have improved rapidly, arming scientists with new capabilities for research in biotechnology. Next generation sequencing platforms have become so essential to biology research workflows that they have become standard features of labs across the globe. Furthermore, CRISPR DNA editing technology has been widely regarded as one of the hottest scientific breakthroughs of our lifetimes. But what about DNA writing? The DNA writing space, compared to its reading and editing counterparts, has received significantly less attention in recent years. However, we believe we are on the verge of a DNA writing revolution that will be equally as transformative for research in the life sciences.
